Review: Eco-Dent SpecialCare Extrabrite and DailyCare Original Mint Toothpowders

Eco-Dent Toothpowders are am-a-ZING!

eco_dent_header

DIY natural toothpowders just not your thing? Or do you prefer toothpowders over toothpaste? Well then I am happy I can tell you about not 1, but 2 great natural toothpowders. One an effervescent mint powder & the other is a effervescent mint whitening powder.

How did I find Eco-Dent? Well it came up when I was researching something else & as usually happens with me I went off researching their website & I was no longer researching my original quest (it is all good I was researching coconut oil like I do often & have since as well.). The Eco-Dent website had my attention, as I read about their products, the customer reviews, & the FAQ’s section. So I contact Tom at Eco-Dent & I tell you they have amazing customer service, I love how so many natural companies are just so awesome & have great customer service & treat people like people.

So I will be reviewing 2 of those products today: “Eco-Dent SpecialCare Toothpowders Extrabrite” And the “Eco-Dent DailyCare Toothpowders Original Mint“.

And stay tuned because in a week or so I will also be reviewing the “Eco-Dent GentleFloss VeganFloss Cinnamon” And the “Eco-Dent Between! Dental Gum Cool Mint” & Doing one awesome giveaway for all 4 of these awesome, natural oral care products.

I am a toothpowder kinda person, yes I do sometimes use toothpaste but by far prefer toothpowder.  And yes I make my own Toothpowder, but these Eco-Dent toothpowders intrigued me & I was excited to try them & for my not so natural husband to possibly give them a try, as you know he’s only very slowly getting into natural & his natural (sloth paced) journey has been full of, “no way not using that” moments. Can you imagine my surprise after saying no more to him than “Hey I have 2 natural toothpowders in the bathroom if your interested in using them feel free” he proclaimed just days later when I had no idea he had even tried them that he really likes that Extrabrite toothpowder, & says “Can I have it?” Well of course he can & thank goodness I no longer have to keep fluoride toothpaste around for him. So the Eco-Dent SpecialCare Toothpowders Extrabrite makes it onto my “Husband approved” list. And if you are like my husband & there is no way you are going to use DIY toothpaste & other natural toothpastes made you gag, you might try one of the Eco-Dent Toothpowders (they also have toothpaste & Mouth rinse & a full line of oral care products).

Review: Eco-Dent SpecialCare Extrabrite and DailyCare Original Mint Toothpowders

But what about the rest of the family, well as I said I just sat them in the bathroom  & told my 6 kids they could try them, of course they no longer have the option of using the Extrabrite toothpowder because my husband has claimed it as his very own & knows he best hide it or in our house it will disappear in the twinkle of an eye because of so many people products do go fast (but that is fine since it is not recommended for children under 12 anyhow). But they saw the blue bottle of the Eco-Eco-DentDent DailyCare Toothpowders Original Mint & it is safe for kids of all ages & was widely accepted by my kids & they even got a kick out of the effervescent action of the toothpowder, Some like to use it with raw coconut oil on the toothbrush first then apply some powder, Some like to just use it alone or with colloidal silver to wet the toothbrush. Or to mix in a bit of activated charcoal. So you can still use these toothpowders & add in some of your DIY routine. I have heard nothing but good things from my kids, so yes do offer these products to your kids to brush with. And yes this toothpowder is “Teen Approved“.

But what about me the Queen of DIY? I got to try both & do love the awesome minty-ness of both & must admit I also like the effervescent effect of the powder, as I said I do brush after with raw coconut oil, but for the sake of my fans I also tried it this way. applying raw coconut oil to my tooth-brush then adding the powder, & yes it was still effervescent doing this method & yes I loved it! I to one day added a pinch of activated charcoal to my brush with the powder & brushed & it went together very well. I also brush with Diatomaceous earth in my toothpowder once a week & added a pinch to the powder one morning & it worked great. So again if you are not totally into making your own you can give this a try & still add other things with it if you desire or use it alone. So yes I highly recommend it to those of my fans in the hunt for great, natural fluoride free tooth products & yes both of these toothpowders make my “Cheree’s Favorites” list

So check out Eco-Dent, tell your friends about them & remember to be on the watch for my next review on the dental floss & the dental gum & the awesome upcoming giveaway pack.

A DIY Life: Honeysuckle infused oil – A honey of an idea

Honeysuckle not just a fragrant flower & not just for eating!

Honeysuckle oil, hmm: A few days ago I did a blog post on making floral infused vinegar & I honeysuckle oilused honeysuckle (posted yesterday) To do a blog I tend to work on the draft several days to several weeks depending on my creative juices & mood. While I was working on the (infused)honeysuckle vinegar honey suckle8blog Annie’s Homestead/The Holistic Homestead on Facebook shared that she had just started some honeysuckle oil, & she shared her blog post on making infused oils (here). I have made herbal oils before & even some with flowers but for some reason I had never considered honeysuckle oil. So thank you to Annie for adding a new oil to my list for me to make. I love so many of Annie’s posts because they are great, but the fact that my second daughters name is Annie, makes me love her name 🙂

To pin my blog post on Pinterest

So just like with the vinegar I sent my kids out picking honeysuckle, & this time I am pretty sure they ate more of the honeysuckle than they brought me, but it is all ok because I got enough to do what I needed & they all got to eat honeysuckle, so we are all happy.

Lets get to making infused oil!

Gather & wash: As I said in my other posts, I prefer to gather flowers & petals for infusions first honeysuckle 2thing in the morning when dew is still on them & the ground, these flowers seem to make a better infusion, but many gather anytime of the honeysuckleday. Wash the flowers in cool water to remove any dirt or unwanted pest. gently crush flowers in your hands as you add them to the jar you will be using. Do not crush them beyond recognition just one gentile squeeze with your hand to remove the excess water as you pull the flowers from the wash & add them to the jar is plenty. I also decided to add the little bit of rose petals I had left after picking my bush rose water 2bare in with the honeysuckle. So this is really honeysuckle rose infused oil.

Add to jar: So I filled my jar 1/2 full, because mainly the jar I used had more room than I needed, so for actual directions I will quote Annie: Fill the jar with herb. If you’re using dried herbs, fill 2/3 full. If you’re using fresh, fill until there is 1 ½ in head space.

Oil: You can use most any natural carrier oil, I made a mixture of 1/4 of melted at room temp raw honeysuckle oil (2)coconut oil, 1/4 olive oil, 1/4 Sweet almond oil, & 1/4 Wheat germ oil, in my other oil infusions this is the combo I liked best, it makes a slightly thicker oil & it can be added to DIY beauty products or used alone on skin & hair. It can also be whipped with raw coconut oil for a body whip (future blog post). So I added the oil to just above my petals in the jar, again for this info I will quote Annie: Cover the herb with your carrier oil. Leave about ½” headspace. Make sure there is at least 1 inch of oil covering the herb. Cover and label! Make sure you use the plant name and the date of when it’s started.

Sit in sun & Shake: For this method sun is your friend, sit in a sunny warm window, & shake the oil once daily, it will take 4 to 6 weeks to be finished (worth the wait). Then strain out the flowers, add the oil to a jar & label & date, Annie says it will last at least a year (so dating is important). But check out Annie’s blog post for an even faster method here.

Honeysuckle benefits.

Info I found online in various places by researching, I suggest you also research honeysuckle: Honeysuckle is edible & highly medicinal. Honeysuckle is very useful in various ailments & diseases. It has a sweet & calming floral scent. Honeysuckle is known honeysuckle oil for detoxing toxins from the blood & liver. The oil is great for treating a sore throat, fever, honeysuckle oilskin & scalp issues.(For sore throat it can be used as a gargle or used in oil pulling). Honeysuckle oil has antibacterial & anti-inflammatory properties. It makes a great hair oil treatment in your nopoo routine helping stop dryness & brittleness of hair. Adding some honeysuckle oil to your bath water can be relaxing after a stressful day. Honeysuckle is a natural antibiotic & is used to treat infections caused by staphylococcal or streptococcal bacteria. The oil can be added to your  DIY toothpaste &/or DIY mouthwash. The oil can be rubbed on the chest of those with sinus issues, colds, allergies, chronic coughs, asthma & related respiratory issues for relief. Add a little bit of the oil to a  hot tea (or beverage) as an expectorant. Yup so much more can be learned of the uses of honeysuckle & how making this oil harnesses the honeysuckle greatness.

Hot oil treatment for hair: Add the amount of oil you will need to a heat safe jar, add the jar into a small pot or bowl of hot water & let the oil get hot, (not to hot, just above room temp, not boiling). Apply to dry hair making sure to cover all areas of scalp & hair, wrap a hot wet (wrung out) towel around your head, leave 10 to 20 minutes then wash out. (no poo) I think this just might be my Teenagers favorite use for this oil.

Whip, body whip & other uses: Mix 1 part honeysuckle oil with 2 parts solid raw coconut oil, mix by hand, with a hand mixer, blender or food processor & whip into a cream. This mixture will stay cream like if not to warm in your home. Use as chest rub, cream deodorant, scalp & skin treatment, as a night cream, moisturizer, massage oil, for feet, hands etc.

Using straight: I like to use these oils strait also, just to rub on rashes, skin issues, as a chest rub, for dry feet, to heal wounds., massage oils.

Deodorant: you can add this oil to one of your DIY deodorant recipes, simply mix with 1 part with 1 part baking soda & 1 part cornstarch, add extra raw coconut oil if needed mix to consistency you desire. Simply rub on clean underarms

Welcome to my blog, my name is Cheree & I am ~Natural & Frugal: Raising 6 kids~

Welcome to my blog, my name is Cheree & I am ~Natural & Frugal: Raising 6 kids~

Face mask: Mix honeysuckle oil with clay powder for a moisturizing detoxing face mask, usually around 1 part oil to 2 parts clay, but you can make it the consistency you desire, apply to wet face & allow to dry up to 20 minutes, if you wish to leave on longer simply mist with water, colloidal silver or rosewater etc. as it starts drying. Once done simply wash off with warm water.

Get creative & enjoy this infused oil, & experiment with other infused flower or herb oils & their uses. I am happy to be adding honeysuckle oil to my infused oil list.

And a special thank you to Annie’s Homestead/The Holistic Homestead

Baking soda – Great uses for cleaning, health, body care and beyond

I thought I might ramble on about one of my favorite all around products, Baking soda!

Baking soda:
I think I could write a song or poem in honor of this great white powder “Ode to baking soda” maybe hmmm
Yes you can bake with it, & add it to tea & coffee
Baking soda to cure your aches, or to stop the sting of a bee
Its great used for face, skin, & hair, And great as a soap and body wash too
Baking soda everywhere, in the kitchen, the laundry and to clean the silverware
Baking soda for health, relieving heartburn & balancing PH, I hope I did not forget to many things it can do!

Ok I am not the best poet but it’s not really my area, so I wont quit my day job 🙂
Yes baking soda is not a cure-all but its one of those great products that comes mighty close. & when mixed with other natural things can achieve greatness. Baking soda in our home is used for all ages & my Teens love its many uses.
Check out this blog post I did on using baking soda for allergies

We love baking soda

In our house we have a box of baking soda by the kitchen sink, by the bathroom sink & the bathtub for fast clean ups, toothpaste, deodorant, face wash & as hand soap & body wash, in the fridge for deodorizing & in so many DIY products, a box of baking soda in our house goes pretty fast with all of its uses

Yup we are crazy for baking soda, sometimes I am so bad at adding baking soda to things that when I hand my husband something to eat or drink he looks at me kinda strange and says “Hey does this have baking soda in it?” Ok so maybe I don’t go that overboard with it (everything in moderation). But after months of him telling me it does not make a good soap to get black gunk & greasy oil off his arms & hands, one day I heard him asking what happened to the baking soda? So baby steps folks because he still says baking soda does not work lol.

Baking soda is one of those things if someone comes to me with an issue it is possible I will give them baking soda as the answer (&/or ACV).
I might just be the baking soda queen & all my kids would agree, but even they tell others how great it is. Even my teens ask for it & use it. You can almost guarantee my purse will have baking soda in it just in case (but what I carry in my purse might just deserve a blog post all on its own)

What do you do if you get a headache, stomach ache, heartburn or other aches & pains? Well you could reach for 1 tsp. of baking soda stirred one minute in 4 to 8 oz. of water and drink it, it works amazing for many people for all kinds of pain.

I could go on & on about all baking soda can do for health such as balancing body PH all the way to curing cancer but I might need a week to cover it all. Go here for more ideas on using Baking soda for health.

Make sure to also check out my Blog series: How to be Green & Healthy: Room by room, with lots of ways to use baking soda cleaning almost everything.

NEWSFLASH: Baking soda does not contain aluminum here & here
Info straight from Arm & Hammer’s Facebook page, where they responded to a question about Aluminum: Arm & Hammer Thanks for your question. We are happy to tell you that ARM & HAMMER Baking Soda does not contain aluminum, parabens, colorants or animal-derived ingredients. ARM & HAMMER Baking Soda is pure, versatile, effective, safe, and affordable for baking, household and personal care uses. Thanks for being an ARM & HAMMER fan!

I used baking soda in my cancer treatment so I know how wonderful baking soda is, I just found this awesome blog post on Baking soda & Cancer: Baking Soda is Proving to be an Effective Treatment For Cancer

Baking soda antiseptic PH balancer: When baking soda is combined with water the resulting reaction turns baking soda into a natural non toxic PH balancing mild antiseptic, according to the textbook “Biology: Life on Earth with Physiology.” And it is rare for anyone to have an allergic reaction because its only ingredients are sodium, hydrogen carbon and oxygen.
The makes baking soda a great natural DIY cleaner & great for skin care & wound care.
So instead lets cover some of the other uses

Baking soda made from soda ash or sodium carbonate, this mineral has the ability to balance  the naturally made pH acidic and pH alkaline that resides in all living things.  Including: bacteria, mold, mildew and a host of many other natural odor-causing organisms  can be neutralized with the use of baking soda.

Baking soda & some of the ways we use it:

Baking soda & Lemon juice face exfoliate & mask

  • 3 parts baking soda
  • 1 part lemon juice (Fresh juice works best)

mix together to for a paste, use more or less liquid to get the consistency you desire. Use a wash cloth & rub gently in circles on wet face to exfoliate, if desired leave on 2 minutes to 10 minutes then rinse off, pat dry & rub on raw coconut oil .

Baking soda as shampoo (no poo)

Work into hair just like shampoo, let sit a few minutes, rinse & repeat if needed (follow with a DIY conditioner like ACV, citrus vinegar, or lemon juice in warm water)

More shampoo recipes & no Poo ideas

Cleaning with baking soda

You can use baking soda to scrub sinks, counters appliances, tub, oven, stove you name it, just make into a paste with warm water, Vinegar, lemon juice or peroxide & scrub, you can also add a couple of drops of natural liquid soap or Dish liquid if needed.

More DIY cleaning

Baking soda in the laundry

for softer clothes add baking soda in the rinse cycle, if you have a HE machine mix with water or peroxide first, I add 1/4 a cup of baking soda to most of my loads in my HE machine, I also use it in the machine cleaning cycle

Fabric softener with baking soda (I use in my HE)

  • you need 1 gallon jug
  • 1 and  1/2 cups  baking soda
  • 1 and 1/2 cups Epsom salt
  • 2 cups white vinegar
  • 1 cup lemon juice
  • 20 to 30 drops of your favorite essential oil

bring 5 cups of water to a boil, turn to med heat & slowly add the baking soda & epsom salt stirring constantly till dissolved (you may need to add more water) remove from heat. let cool & add to gallon just very slowly add the vinegar (it will fizz up & out if you go to fast) then very slowly add the lemon juice, then add your essential oils, fill jug the rest of the way with water. I add 1/2 cup to 1 cup per load.

More laundry ideas

Baking soda deodorant
