The name turmeric might sound funny to you or maybe you think it is just a little to spicy. But have you ever thought about how amazing it is? If you have not tried Turmeric behold this amazing spice & all it can do for you!
Organic Turmeric is fast becoming a favorite in our house, we have enjoyed the spice added to homemade snacks like popcorn. We have been mainly using it on our food or snacks sprinkled just like salt (& of course we are still also using our Natural Unrefined Pink Himalayan salt) but we are also using in to cook with & a few other great ways too.
Try it you might like it, turmeric is a great addition in cold salads like egg salad, tuna salad, chicken salad. & is also great in many dishes, just do not use too much & over power what you are using it on. Hey I also think it is neat that this awesome spice has my husbands name in it (Eric).
Fresh Turmeric: Of course fresh is best, but I have been unable to find fresh local to me, the Turmeric looks similar to ginger, then you can grind it, chop it, dry it etc yourself. Until then I am using the Simply Organic Brand & I really like it.
Testimony on using turmeric from Fan Rebecca C. for asthma: Interesting. Several years ago I was in the hospital for a life threatening asthma attack. I spent 27 hour in intensive care, before being transferred to a regular bed for 5 days.
The hospital lung specialist was from Sri Lanka and had studied Ayurveda medicine in India, before coming to America and becoming a Pulmonologist.
He recommended many natural supplements for my asthma, including taking at least Tablespoon of turmeric a day. More is better he said. Explaining that is has a ‘drying’ effect on mucus in the body.
I started doing the natural things, as well as taking the prescriptions. I went from going into the hospital every 6 weeks, to going 20 months between hospitalization. 🙂 AND I take less prescriptions, and the ones I do take, I take less often.

Lets get cooking & snacking with Turmeric!
Turmeric being an ingredient in mustard does have a slightly mustard like taste with some dishes & it will give your food a yellow/golden color. So try not to overload a dish until you figure out your preference on amount & taste. Using raw coconut oil to cook with & to mix in with Turmeric in food creates a tasty & healthy balance of the spiciness & the slightly nuttiness.
4 chicken breast with or without the skin & bone
2 tablespoon ground turmeric powder
1 tablespoon natural unrefined salt (like Pink Himalayan)
1 teaspoon white or black pepper
2 tablespoon of fresh chopped parsley
2 tablespoons of fresh chopped green onions
Juice from 1/2 a lemon or lime
3 tablespoon room temp raw coconut oil
in a bowl whisk together the turmeric, salt, pepper, parsley, onions, lemon juice & coconut oil. Add the chicken pieces & work them in the mixture evenly making sure to coat the chicken. sit the bowl in the fridge & allow the chicken to marinade for at least an hour.
Cook on a greased baking sheet in the oven on 350 for 20 to 50 minutes making sure to not let chicken dry out. You can also cook this chicken on the stop top in a pan or on a grill. Optional: sprinkle more turmeric on the chicken half way through cooking & use a brush to wipe on more coconut oil. This same method can be used for fish or other meats as well, adjusting or changing the spices as desired.

Recently shared with my fans a couple of our favorite ways to eat turmeric on homemade healthy snacks, fresh popped stove top popcorn & baked seeds. These are great family friendly snacks that kids love to help make & they are healthy too.
Popcorn: A healthy TV night snack: Stove top pop corn, made with raw coconut oil, then mixed with a real butter & a real olive oil combo, natural unrefined pink Himalayan salt added to taste, then just a light sprinkle of organic Turmeric added & mixed in. Everything used in this snack gave my family a healthy kick to their immune system. This snack is a great way to get Coconut oil, olive oil, & Turmeric in your kids (If you are looking for Organic non GMO popping corn check out Tropical Traditions)
Roasted fresh squash or pumpkin seeds: These are also cooked with raw coconut oil in the oven Spread on baking sheet & sprinkle with natural unrefined pink Himalayan salt & Organic Turmeric powder & cook till golden. Other options to add would be fresh lemon juice, Bragg vinegar, fresh chopped garlic. Use your imagination & make a great healthy snack that’s tasty & gives the immune system a boost & as a plus this totally homemade snack has none of the junk in store-bought so called healthy or natural snacks.
Brushing your teeth: Did you know that turmeric is great to brush your teeth & gums with, it can heal sores & abscesses & stop bleeding gums & other issues plus it is a great teeth whitener (check here for more info)
Treating wounds on people & animals: I simply mix 1 tbsp. raw coconut oil, 1 tbsp. wheat germ oil & 1/2 tsp. organic ground turmeric, mix & apply as needed (for animals you need to reapply often)
Skin care: I made several awesome skin masks using turmeric I just love. You can add just a bit in with your clay powder before adding liquid to make a mask. Or you can mix it right in with the bentonite clay Wound Warrior & apply to face. Other great items to make a face mask or wash face with that turmeric worked well mixed with: oatmeal, baking soda, borax, Epsom salt, salt, raw honey, raw coconut oil, olive oil, lemon juice (more skin care ideas here)
Oil pulling: I do oil pull for 20 minutes every day (see here) but I have not yet tried turmeric in oil puling, I read about it & it sounds great but most add it the last 5 minutes of oil pulling, some have it added the whole 20 minutes. remember both oil pulling & turmeric are great for oral health & teeth whitening as well as great detoxifiers.
