In our home Epsom Salt is used for so much that it almost made my 10 list, it came so close to making the top 10 list that it is probably 10 & 1/2. We use it for lots of DIY ideas like Skin issuesSkin care, Soaking bath for pain etc, Deodorant, Laundry & even for roses & in the Garden.

Duh!
Because you do your research & dig deep to find the truth & research both sides of everything, at some point in everyone’s natural journey & researching you will hit that Duh moment time & time again, Duh moments like: What vinegar & baking soda can clean my whole house & my body? Really shampoo & body care items are impairing my immune system with their toxic ingredients? Etc (insert your personal Duh Moment here). You learn that health is not just vitamins, but the types of vitamins, what you eat, what you use on your body & in your house, that it is all one big package.

And at some point in that journey you realize your body needs magnesium & that most are magnesium deficient, & then you learn the best way to get your magnesium is to absorb it, enter Epsom Salt (& diet, I never like to ignore diet).

An estimated 75% of Americans have daily magnesium intakes less than recommended.

Foods that may help promote best-absorbed magnesium include:

  • Fructose and complex carbohydrates
  • Protein, with the exception of unfermented soy products
  • Medium chain triglycerides, or MCTs, such as raw/virgin coconut oil & palm oil
  • Fermented foods or soluble fibers, such as fiber from fruits and vegetables

Foods that hinder magnesium absorption include:

  • Non-fermentable or insoluble fiber, such as whole grain, bran and seeds
  • Foods high in phytates, such as whole flours and grains, bran, the hulls of seeds and nuts, and un-sprouted beans and soy
  • Foods high in oxalates, such as spinach, leafy greens, nuts, tea, coffee and cacao

How can Epsom Salt help in Magnesium absorption?Epsome salt

Studies have shown that magnesium is easily absorbed through the skin, so an Epsom salt bath does not just feel great it can be great for your health too. So a soaking bath can relax you & give you pain relief while giving you other much needed health benefits while you absorb magnesium.

Magnesium can greatly ease migraines headaches so another benefit of soaking in epsom salt is it can help prevent & stop headaches.

Rather you like a relaxing epsom salt bath or a foot soak simply adding epsom salt a part of your daily routine can add health benefits. Add 2 cups Epsom Salt to a warm bath and soaking for at least 15 minutes then rub your skin with a natural oil to seal in moisture. Do not use soap as it will interfere with the benefits of the epsom salt, if you feel the need to wash use baking soda only instead. After an epsom salt bath it is best to go to bed for at least 2 hours, so doing it just before bed might work best.

Me:
As the above info shows baking soda baths are great, & I highly recommend them for many many reasons, but they are great to absorb magnesium, I had issues with magnesium so now I take 2 to 4 baths a week with epsom salt just before bed & my magnesium levels are great, I also do not use shampoo (no poo) & do not use commercial products or soap (I use baking soda as shampoo & soap) we are totally DIY in so many areas. Now for other great ways to use epsom salt, & I use several of them while I am in my epsom salt soaking bath.

Epsome salt 002Beauty uses:
Epsom salt makes a great acne fighting or skin issue face cleaner, even if you have no issues it is awesome. Simply wet face or mist face/skin with colloidal silver & gently rub epsom salt on face, either just wash & rinse off or let dry like a mask. this is great for eczema, hives, poison ivy/oak, shingles, dermatitis, psoriasis etc.

Epsom salt for some hair types makes a great no poo, either mixed with baking soda, mixed with borax & baking soda or alone. simply add 1/2 teaspoon to 1 tablespoon to a cup or 2 of hot water, stir till dissolved & apply & work into wet hair, allow to run across your face at the same time for double duty use. you will need to play around with the amounts to find what works for you, some like to also add 1 teaspoon with commercial shampoos & conditioners, Epsom salt can also be added to the DIY no poo conditioner if you like. Epsom salt does make some people’s hair greasy if they add to much & some just can not use it for this reason. Great for those with thinning hair, many report when using epsom salt hair stopped falling out or thinning, but in all truthfulness once you find a no poo recipe that works for you this seems to just in general be an awesome side effect of going no poo. Epsom salt can help Dandruff, an itching or peeling scalp, Cradle cap, damaged hair & hair follicles, head lice & mites.

Epsom salt love ❤ in the garden & for plants.

For roses: They sprinkle about 1/2 cup of Epsom salt into the soil around rose bush in the spring & the fall. For feeding mix 1 tablespoon of Epsom salt into 1 gallon of water & apply to a rate of about one gallon for larger roses & less for smaller roses every two weeks. This could help prevent garden pests, while it helps roses get bushier & bloom more vibrantly.

For tomatoes: Add Epsom salt into the soil as you plant each plant, and supplement with around the plant base during the growth period. This will help to boost tomato growth and production.

For peppers: Mix 1 tablespoon of Epsom salt with 1 gallon of water and spray it directly to the leaves of plants

General soil preparation: You can work in 1 cup of Epsom salt per 100 square feet of garden area before planting.

Epsom salt is high solubility and foliar application is a fast way to get the nutrients to plant. You can mix 1 tablespoon of Epsom salt with a gallon of water and
apply to container gardens (not cactus or succulents) and houseplants once a month to boost growth and encourage healthy foliage and blooming Epsom salt should be used only as a growth enhancer along with your regular fertilizer, as it does not contain the nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium
necessary for plant growth. It does not build up in the soil and does not cause harm to plants if overused.

Epsom salt is a popular  in organic & natural gardening for flowers, vegetables & fruit plants as well as lawns.

rosesMe:
My roses love Epsom salt & baking soda in water. I also use this mixture on several houseplants & on tomatoes, we also add epsom salt in soil to prepare it like the method above. but beware just watering any plants with epsom salt, I have had no issues with any plants I just watered with baking soda water, but research your plant type before adding epsom salt with baking soda or alone.

Here is a great resource for things you can feed plants.

Natural Salt vs Table Salt – Natural Unrefined salts needed for health

Salt!

So many think it is evil & should be avoided, DRs want to rid it from our lives in the name of health. But should it be considered evil? should we not use salt?

I will be including links to great articles, make sure & check them out, & do your own research.

Low salt diet, really? Raise your hand if you have been told to restrict or stop using salt? Did you ever wonder how salt can be so bad, after all our bodies need salt, if we are dehydrated what do they give us, & IV with saline solution in it Yoursaltlamps.com Sole Salt(yeap salt) before we were born we lived in a sack filled with salt, yeap that bad ole salt. The baby can not live without the salt, if you are restricting the salt then where will your body get it from? Then you research it & discover that adequate amounts of natural unrefined salts can actually heal & prevent the very same issues that table salt causes (High blood pressure being just 1)

To buy your own Natural unrefined Pink Himalayan salt go here, remember when it comes to natural unrefined salt & getting the minerals grinding it yourself is best.

Salt is a vital nutrient. No woman, expectant or otherwise, can live
without it. Neither can the unborn baby, who receives sodium from his mother’s blood stream, through the placenta. Sodium requirements vary
widely depending on activity level, environmental conditions, personal
health, and many more factors. Pregnancy is one condition where the body
actually requires MORE salt in order to remain health. Hypertension and Salt Restriction (this info is for pregnancy & even for when not pregnant,

Why Salt? Or is it the kind of salt?

If you DR tells you to cut out salt for health do you research it?
I agree with cutting out table salt/iodized salts but our bodies need salt, & many not only use natural unrefined salts, they take it as well for health, & many have discovered the very things they have been told salt causes natural salt cures. oh & as a plus natural unrefined sea salt has naturally occurring iodine instead of a chemical version like table salt.

Is Salt bad for you? – The Health Dangers of Table salt – Why is Iodine in Salt Bad? – So what’s the difference between table salt  and high quality sea salt? – 22 Vital Functions of Salt in the Body – SHAKING UP THE SALT DEBATE!

Our Bodies need Salt, it needs to be natural & unrefined salt but restricting our salt intake causes many health issues.Every cell in our body needs salt. Our bodies rely on salt to keep good bone density, proper circulation and stabilized blood sugar levels. But how could something so wonderful and  natural become a poison? There are a few common misconceptions  on the dangers of salt.

Table Salt or “Iodized Salt” is not a healthy naturally occurring rock, crystal or sea salt. It is a manufactured type of sodium called sodium chloride with added iodide.Pink salt

Iodine in salt available at grocery stores, restaurants and in practically all processed foods, have synthetic chemicals added to them. These chemicals may include manufactured forms of iodide, sodium solo-co-aluminate, fluoride sodium bicarbonate, toxic amounts of potassium iodide, anti-caking agents and aluminium derivatives. Table salt has also been bleached. Unfortunately, most table salt is not only unhealthy, but is toxic to the body and should never be considered as a source of healthy iodine. Why is sea salt good for you (And  Table salt is not)

Table salt is a highly refined & goes through a process that removes the magnesium and other trace minerals.  Because salt is naturally hygroscopic, (easily retaining water), aluminum compounds and other additives such as silica are added to the already refined salt. The natural iodine is destroyed during the refining process, and is added back as potassium iodide, in often toxic levels.  Dextrose (a sugar)  is added as a stabilizer which interacts with the salt and changes its color.  A bleaching agent is used to whiten the salt.

We need salt for life & health.
The processed white salt lacking in trace minerals. people in the natural health work call it death salt. Real salt, on the other hand, such as “dirty” sea salt or pink Himalayan salt, is loaded with minerals
And don’t be fooled by claims of “sea salt” in grocery stores.

Natural salt is a mineral that the body needs. And we cannot get the nutritional value out of simple table salt. It is chemically processed. Natural, (organic), unrefined, & no iodine added is the way to go. Studies Suggest Low Salt Diets Are Deadly – “Salt needed for health”

Himalayan salt is said to contain 84 minerals that are good for your health.  However, not all of the ingredients in Himalayan salt are technically minerals;  some, such as hydrogen and oxygen, are elements but not minerals. Spectral  analyses done on Himalayan salt show that it contains both macrominerals, such  as calcium and chloride, as well as trace minerals including iron and zinc.
