Tropical Traditions Oxygen Bleach is a safe and effective alternative to chlorine based products and it can be used in many applications in and around the home. It is based on sodium percarbonate which uses oxygen for destaining and deodorizing. Oxygen Bleach is safe to use at all temperatures, on most washable fabrics, and all colors, in hard or soft water, and is compatible with other household cleaners. Also, it produces no harmful by-products which negatively affect the environment. Unlike chlorine bleach, which can merely cover up a stain, Tropical Traditions Oxygen Bleach attacks and breaks down organic stains to totally remove them from the garment.

As my fans you know I love Tropical Traditions & all their great products, my favorite of course is the Gold Label Virgin Coconut oil but I have become a big fan of so many of their other products as well. I am totally loving their Household Traditions products so far & this Oxygen bleach is just as awesome as it sounds. I have used Oxyclean &  other Oxygen powder cleaners in the past & I am also very fond of using just regular peroxide in cleaning, kitchen, laundry etc. But I must say I loved this product more than I ever did Oxyclean, I gave up Oxyclean probably 10 years ago in favor of more green products like peroxide. But with Tropical Traditions Oxygen bleach there are only 2 ingredients Sodium percarbonate & soda ash.

Sodium percarbonate: It is very neat stuff.  It is a powder that releases hydrogen peroxide, and it is very concentrated. To be complete, sodium percarbonate releases hydrogen peroxide and soda ash.  As we know, hydrogen peroxide breaks down into oxygen and water.  As you may expect, then, sodium percarbonate breaks down into oxygen, water, and soda ash. Sodium percarbonate is generally considered environmentally friendly. However, don’t get it confused with Sodium Perborate – which is made from borate, is NOT good to get on plants, and is considered somewhat harmful to the environment.

Soda Ash: Many sodium percarbonate products also contain sodium carbonate.  Sodium carbonate is soda ash. Sodium percarbonate is hydrogen peroxide and soda ash. So, sodium carbonate is kind of “more of the same”. (info here).

Now back to the Tropical Traditions Oxygen bleach, every way I used it I fell in love with, as a matter of fact for the first time while reviewing a product I ordered more (because it was on sale #1 & #2 I want to explore more uses). Yes I have reordered other products I have reviewed but usually after I was out or later in the year etc. And of course by far my favorite uses were including the Oxygen Bleach in my DIY recipes. So I will now share them with you.

DIY ideas using Oxygen Bleach:

Laundry soap Powdered:
1 bar of grated or shaved natural or homemade soap.
1 cup of Tropical Traditions Oxygen Bleach
2 cups of Borax
1 cup baking soda
2 cups Washing soda
Optional: 1 tsp. of eucalyptus essential oil & 1 tsp. of lemon essential oil (or essential oils of choice)
Mix together breaking up any clumps, store in airtight container, use 1 to 2 tbsp. per load of laundry. also great made into a paste with water to pretreat spots. (if you do not want to add the bar soap leave it out & use 2 to 5 tbsp. per load).

Laundry soap liquid:
1 cup of Tropical Traditions Oxygen Bleach
1 cup of Borax
1 cup of Washing Soda
1 cup of Epsom salt (optional for softening)
1 cup of Tropical Traditions / Household Traditions Dish Liquid
Dissolve the Oxygen bleach, borax, Epsom salt & washing soda in 5 or so cups of warm water, then mix with dish liquid in gallon jug  fill rest of the jug with water. You might need to shake to mix before each use.  use 1/2 cup to 1 cup per load.

Laundry booster:
Equal parts Borax, Washing soda, Tropical traditions Oxygen Bleach. Optional add an equal part Tropical Traditions powdered laundry detergent & Tropical Traditions powdered dishwasher detergent mix together & store in airtight container, use as normal. Option to add Epsom salt.

Laundry Spray spot pre treat:
3 parts warm water to 1 part lemon juice, 1 part Tropical Traditions Oxygen bleach. Mix in bowl of warm water, once dissolved & cooled add to spray bottle.
what I do for most stains is just spray them as I see them, I let sit 20 minutes to over night, then wash as normal. So far I have never had this fade any clothing, but if you are worried do a spot check. Optional: add 1 part Borax. This can be used as a kitchen & bathroom spray cleaner as well.

Laundry Paste spot treat:
Mix equal parts Tropical Traditions Oxygen bleach, Tropical Traditions powdered laundry Detergent & baking soda, with water & a couple of drops of Tropical Traditions Dish Liquid. Apply to stain & let sit or use a toothbrush to scrub it in. Then just wash as normal. Also makes a great grout, tub & tile cleaner.

Laundry Pre soak: Add hot water to washer, 1 scoop of Tropical Traditions Oxygen bleach, 1 cup of lemon juice, add clothes & soak. Options to add, Borax, Washing Soda, Baking soda, Tropical Traditions powdered laundry

Dishwasher Powder:
1 cup Tropical Traditions Oxygen Bleach
1 cup Borax (optional)
1 cup Epsom salt
I cup washing soda or baking soda
1 cup Tropical Traditions Powdered Dishwasher detergent
Use 1 or 2 tbsp. per wash load (your dishwasher might need more or less) For rinse aid use lemon juice, white vinegar or orange drink mix.

Multi purpose spray cleaner:
Mix 1/4 cup of Tropical Traditions Oxygen Bleach in a couple of cups of warm/hot water until dissolved. Add to spray bottle with (optional) 1/4 cup of Lemon juice & essential oils of choice.

Tub, Tile, grout , toilet cleaner:
Make a paste with Tropical Traditions Oxygen bleach & baking soda, mix with water to make a paste, apply, let sit a few minutes & scrub. Options to add: Lemon & Eucalyptus essential oils, Borax, Tropical Traditions Dish Liquid.

Other uses I tried & loved.

To clean wood floors, laminate floors, wooden deck, toilets, counter stains, mold. in laundry, in kitchen sink for hand washing dishes, to scrub white appliances, for general mopping on & on.

Uses and Instructions

Laundry

• In the laundry Oxygen Bleach is used to destain, deodorize, and whiten. It is very effective as a laundry presoak for heavily stained articles. For light soils add 1 ounce of Oxygen Bleach with your laundry detergent per load. For moderate soils use 2 ounces and for heavily soiled articles use 4 ounces.
• To whiten and deodorize diapers add 4-6 ounces of Oxygen Bleach into the soak cycle. Soak in hot water for at least 30 minutes, or overnight, then complete wash cycle.
• For whitening old linens and yellowed window shears, deodorizing and cleaning tennis shoes, or to get rid of yellow armpit stains on shirts: soak in 2 ounces of Oxygen Bleach per gallon of water for at least one hour, or overnight, then rinse.
• Note: Oxygen Bleach is not suitable for use with silk or wool.

Kitchen

• For stained plastic ware, dishes, dish rags and dish towels add 1-2 ounces of Oxygen Bleach to the container to be cleaned or to the dishwater and soak for at least 15 minutes.
• To keep your drains and disposals clear and smelling fresh add 1 ounce of Oxygen Bleach in 8 ounces of hot water and allow solution to sit in drain overnight.

Bathroom

• For septic systems add 4 ounces of Oxygen Bleach to toilet and flush into the septic system twice a week.
• For toilets add 3 ounces of Oxygen Bleach, wait 15 minutes then scrub.
• For shower curtains soak in one ounce of Oxygen Bleach per gallon of hot water; for mildew stains soak overnight.
• For bathtub and shower use make a paste of Oxygen Bleach with hot water, scrub with a cloth or sponge, wait 15 minutes then rinse or use.

Yard

• For deodorizing garbage cans add 1/2 ounce of Oxygen Bleach per gallon of water and let soak.
• For lawn furniture add 2 ounces of Oxygen Bleach to hot water, scrub, wait 15 minutes, then rinse.
• For all weather carpeting add 4 ounces of Oxygen Bleach to a gallon of warm water scrub with a stiff broom, wait 20 minutes then rinse.

Household

• To destain and deodorize carpets add one ounce of Oxygen Bleach per gallon of carpet shampoo prior to cleaning.
• To remove mold and mildew from carpeting add 2-4 ounces of Oxygen Bleach per gallon of hot water, apply generously to stain, wait 10 minutes, then vacuum with extractor.
• For acoustic tiles add 6 ounces of Oxygen Bleach per gallon of hot water, spray on tiles, wait 15 minutes then rinse.
• For mops add 3 ounces of Oxygen Bleach to a gallon of hot water, soak overnight then rinse.
• For mildew removal or to clean baseboards or basement floors after water damage from flooding add 4 ounces of Oxygen Bleach to a gallon of hot water, scrub surface, wait 30 minutes then rinse. Oxygen Bleach is safe for use in a closed environment.
• To clean and deodorize cat litter boxes soak them in 3 ounces of Oxygen Bleach per gallon of water for 20 minutes then rinse.
• For urine, feces, or vomit stains on carpets or upholstery, add one teaspoon of Oxygen Bleach to 8 ounces of water, wipe onto stain, wait 10 minutes then rinse.
• Note: Oxygen Bleach is not suitable for use with silk or wool.

Camping

• To clean and deodorize coolers add 2 ounces of Oxygen Bleach per gallon of hot water, soak for 20 minutes, then rinse.
• For boat sails, cushions, ropes, camping gear, tents, tarps, etc. add 4 of Oxygen Bleach ounces per gallon of hot water soak for 30 minutes then rinse.

Wood Decks

• Oxygen Bleach is excellent for cleaning and restoring wood decks. It removes organic stains from leaf stains to BBQ grease, removes mold and mildew as well as sun faded and discolored wood layers. Makes your deck look almost new!!! It doesn’t harm your plants, grass, or landscaping in any way!
• To clean your deck first remove any loose soils or other matter. Dissolve 6 ounces of Oxygen Bleach Destainer and Deodorizer in a gallon of hot water (generally takes about 5 minutes). Apply to wet deck.
• For railings a hand pump sprayer does a really excellent job. Wait 10-15 minutes. Scrub with a stiff broom or brush, then rinse.
