What to shave with?
So you have gone totally natural DIY, & now you are wondering what to effectively use to shave with. I will share ideas ranging from totally DIY to just other natural products that make great shaving cream. All tried by my family.
Ok so you had to know that the first product on my list would be coconut oil right? You know I am crazy for coconut oil so it was expected I am hoping & as you will notice several of these recipes use coconut oil, yup you knew I would do that🙂
Razor: First let me say I love my reusable shaver & it makes shaving so much better, Us girls use them for our legs & underarms & my husband uses one for his face & we wont ever go back. We use the SimplyBeautiful, check out my review here: SimplyBeautiful Double Edge Safety Razor – High quality, solid stainless steel, chrome finish.
Not into DIY shaving: I have reviewed 2 great Shaving soaps check them out The Men’s Soap shop – Shaving soap and Aftershave & BebeLush Old Fashioned Barbershop Shave Soap – Bay Rum, Orange, Clove – Essential Oils – Moisturizing and Healing
Essential oils: Essential oils can be added to any recipe, use your favorite for you skin type, Check out my top used essential oils here.
Colloidal silver: Colloidal silver can be added to any of these recipes to help preserve, give it bacteria & germ fighting properties, for general skin health & more. Colloidal silver gets used in lots of DIY skin care recipes by my family.
Shaving with coconut oil: I do suggest you not use coconut oil in your tub or shower if you have drainage issues or a septic, but many have used it to shave with for years & have had no issues but I still wanted to pass on the warning. This is because coconut oil is liquid above 76 degrees & solid below & so can turn ito a solid pass clog in your pipes. Just use a bowl of water, your shaver & a towel if you are worried. The other oils mentioned are usually fine.
Coconut oil #1: You can use straight coconut oil on your wet legs to shave with & this is probably my most common way to shave. Works great & leaves legs healthy, nourished & moisturized too.
Coconut oil #2: Add 1/4 cup baking soda to 1/2 cup of coconut oil & mix together in a seal tight container.
Coconut oil #3: Mix raw honey & coconut oil in the desired amount & store in a seal tight container.
Coconut oil #4: Mix 1/2 cup of coconut oil with 1 tbsp of aloe vera gel, 2 tbsp rosewater, store in a seal tight container.
Other ideas for shaving:
Oils for shaving: Use oils like real olive oil, sweet almond oil, wheat germ oil, jojoba oil, argan oil, emu oil or rosehip seed oil or other natural liquid oils. Use them alone or mixed for shaving or use any of them to replace coconut oil in the above recipes.
Raw honey for shaving: Check out my blog post on honey & see how great honey is for shaving (we now love it)
Natural Shampoo/Conditioner: Do you have natural conditioner (or even shampoo) left over from when you switched to no poo? use them to shave with instead of wasting them.
Wonder Wash: One of my daughters totally loves shaving with Wonder Wash.
Foaming hand soap: Another teen daughter loves shaving with Tropical Traditions Tea Tree Foaming hand soap.
Natural Bar soaps some handmade: We use bars of soap to shave, check here for some great natural ideas.
After Shave ideas: Apple cider vinegar is a great aftershave & great for skin issues, other ideas, Witch Hazel, Colloidal silver, Raw Coconut oil, Rosehip oil, Essential oils like rosemary or lavender in distilled water, Baking soda in warm water.
