Coconut Flour Recipes & Review
Tropical Traditions organic coconut flour is fiber from the coconut meat after most of the oil has been extracted to make Virgin Coconut Oil. It is certified organic, unsweetened, and has not been treated with sulfites. Tropical Traditions organic coconut flour is high in dietary fiber and protein, and is gluten-free. It has more fiber than gluten-based grains. Tropical Traditions organic coconut flour can be added to standard wheat-based recipes to add extra fiber, by substituting 10-30% of the grain-based flour with our coconut flour. Some recipes, such as muffins and quick breads, can be accomplished with 100% Tropical Traditions organic coconut flour and therefore be 100% gluten-free! (See some free recipes below.) Since organic coconut flour contains natural sugar from the coconut meat, baked goods need less sugar added. The organic coconut flour has a mildly sweet coconut taste!

Or simply dissolve a spoonful in water as a high-fiber drink with a coconut flavor! This organic coconut flour is very versatile and very tasty. Yes I am going to rave again about how much I love Tropical Traditions & all their high quality products, as you all know I totally love their Gold label virgin coconut oil & as my fans know to this point I still have not meet a Tropical Traditions product I do not love. And yes you guessed it I do love the Coconut flour too, such a great addition to cooking & baking healthy & as a plus for those with gluten issues this is a great healthy alternative for you as well. I really liked using it to make things like waffles, gravy etc, but I think I liked it paired with Einkorn flour the best, the 2 flours together made an amazing taste that was super yummy.
How To Use Coconut Flour: Coconut flour is the fiber from the coconut meat after almost all the oil has been extracted to make coconut oil. Being gluten free makes coconut flour a suitable wheat flour substitute for those with gluten and wheat allergies. It is also high in protein and fiber, containing more fiber than gluten-based grains. That said, coconut flour can be a very finicky product to work with. I start with saved stock/drippings in a pan over medium heat, add about 1/4 cup organic powdered/dry milk & 1/4 cup coconut flour for every cup or 2 of liquid, keep whisking & you also add 1 tsp of coconut oil (optional) & 1 teaspoon natural unrefined salt & black pepper.Add other spices of choice, keep whisking, you may need to turn heat down, cook until desired thickness & bubbling, you can add more liquid like water to thin if needed, we love to make sausage gravy, bacon gravy or even gravy from chicken & beef etc with this recipe. As a plus we like to also add just a but of finely cut up meat to the gravy.
1 cup einkorn flour, 1 cup coconut flour, 3 teaspoons baking powder, 1/2 teaspoon natural salt, 1/8 cup whole unbleached organic sugar, 3/4 cup milk of choice, 3/4 cup water, 3 egg yolks, 1 tbsp organic vanilla extract, 1/2 cup melted butter or coconut oil or palm shortening, 3 Egg Whites.
Whisk together the flours, baking powder, salt, & sugar in a mixing bowl. In another mixing bowl, whisk together milk, water, 3 egg yolks, & vanilla. Now pour wet mixture over your dry mixture stir until mostly mixed. Add the melted butter & continue mixing. In another mixing bowl beat the egg whites with a whisk or hand mixer until stiff. Slowly fold them into your batter until mixed (do not over mix) Now add to your waffle iron & cook & enjoy.
As I said we love baking & cooking & prefer to cook healthier, so this great coconut flour fits into our life really well. I read of many who like adding this flour to their smoothies, I have to try that too.
